Kahelelani

Kahelelani shells once adorned Hawaiian royalty, and they remain just as treasured today. Said to be named after a Niʻihau aliʻi, these gem-like shells are the smallest used in lei-making and are gathered by hand along the island’s shores. Ranging in color from dusty pink to deep purple, each shell carries a legacy of artistry, culture, and pride.

For Tanya, founder of Laha‘ole, the memory of her tutu’s delicate shell lei sparked a lasting
inspiration. That connection to family and heritage is woven into every detail of our Kahelelani print. Guided by the shells’ natural hues, this design honors generations of lei-makers who’ve passed down their craft with care.

Kahelelani: A tribute to the queens past and present who wear their heritage with grace, and to the hands that continue to gather and create. A celebration of Hawaiian artistry, reborn in every stitch.
